abstract = {The volume visualization already use NPR methods, in order to
enhance the expression strength of images. On the other hand a
high performance visualization tool is given with VTK. Thus VTK
offers also volume visualization techniques. However VTK does not
support any NPR methods. Therefore, in this diploma thesis it is
first examined whether NPR methods in VTK can be integrated. Ways
are pointed out how NPR methods with VTK can be implemented, or
which extensions of VTK are necessary to implement these in VTK.
In the further process of this thesis it is examined, whether the
effectiveness of a volume visualization can be increased by NPR
methods. This is discussed by decomposition methods, iso surface
representations and direct volume rendering methods. It is shown
for different NPR methods how these visualization techniques can
be improved in depedency on visualization goals. In the context of
the diploma thesis a framework was developed that implements
volume visualization techniques and some NPR methods. The use of
NPR methods in volume visualization is evaluated by the example of
climatic data.},
